Langtang-Gosainkunda-Helambu Trek is a classic trek that takes you to all the major places of the Langtang region: Langtang valley, Gosainkunda, and Helambu valley. This trek is a perfect blend of nature and culture as it rewards trekkers with lush hills, enchanting Himalayas, and diverse culture of the Tamang and Hyolmo communities; the holy lake of Gosainkunda has its own story to tell. Although long, this trek is easy and can be done by someone without prior trekking experience but with a passionate heart.
The trek begins after your drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi. Following the trails of Langtang River, you first explore the Tamang villages of Langtang valley, including Langtang village which is situated in the lap of Langtang Lirung (7227m). Among the many monasteries that you reach during this trek, Kyanjin Gompa, located in the Langtang valley, holds the highest place among the locals of the region and you will uncover the reason when you spend a pleasant evening in the monastery premises. The trek then leads you to the holy lake of Gosainkunda via Sing Gompa and Laurebina.
There are many myths related to Gosainkunda, the most famous one being that this lake was formed by digging the land with the trident of Lord Shiva to collect water to quench his thirst after consuming poison. The lake holds sacred values to the followers of both Hindu and Buddhist religions and is surrounded by several other smaller lakes.
The trek then goes across Gosainkunda Pass (4610m) to reach the pristine valley of Helambu, which is inhabited mostly by the Hyolmo people. Helambu valley is very famous for its natural beauty and wonderful climate with the superb views of the magnificent snow-covered mountains. The area covers typical highland Sherpa villages along with beautiful Rhododendron forests. This region extends from the north to Taramarang to the Gosainkund Lake and the lower Jugal Himal from the north. The villages of Melamchi Gaon, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang along with their ancient monasteries showcase you the lifestyle and culture of the Hyolmo residents. All in all, this trek is the perfect trek for someone seeking spiritual as well as natural serenity.

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by one of our office representatives who will then transfer you to your hotel. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.
After a hearty breakfast, you will get on with your drive to Syabru Besi. Enjoying the constantly changing landscapes, you drive on a pitched road and later on the off-road trail to reach SyabruBbesi via Dhunche. Enjoy the emerging view of Langtang Himal range from Syabru Besi. Overnight in Syabru Besi.
Your trek starts today as you move out of Syabru Besi to reach Lama Hotel. Cross Trishuli River on a suspension bridge and then follow Langtang River upstream through the lush forest of rhododendron and bamboo while being accompanied by the views of Langtang Lirung (7227m) to finally arrive in Lama Hotel. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
The trekking trail from Lama Hotel to Langtang village features many Tamang villages located peacefully on the banks of Langtang River with a backdrop of Naya Kanga (5844m) on one side and Langtang II (6596m) on the other side. Apart from the villages, the lush forest filled with rhododendron and pine trees make your trail to Langtang village a pleasant one. Overnight in Langtang village.
After Langtang village, you will move to Kyanjin Gumba. There are various things you can see and observe on your way like water mills, scared rocks with Buddhist inscriptions, and so on. Through the forested trail on the foothills of the Langtang Himal range, you finally reach Kyanjin Gumba, which is the oldest and the most sacred monastery in Langtang region. The monastery also hosts an amazing view of snowy mountains that glisten behind the barren landscape. Overnight in Kyanjin Gumba.
Today you will take go on a day trip to Tserko Ri (4984m). You walk through the meadows and through rocky lands to reach the top of Tserko Ri (4984m), which serves as an amazing vantage point to view various snow-clad mountains like Langtang Himal range, Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and Langshisa Ri (6560m). Afterward, you hike back to Kyanjin Gumba for the overnight stay.
Today you retrace your way from Kyanjin Gumba through lush forests and past the settlements of Langtang village, Ghodatabela, and Gumanechok to finally reach Lama Hotel. The beautiful Langtang River keeps you company throughout the trek. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
You will follow the Langtang River all the way to Pahare Khola. The trail goes through the stunning forest of bamboo and rhododendron and gives you a chance to spot the rare red panda. From Pahare Hotel, you leave Langtang River and ascend through the forest to reach the Tamang village of Thulo Syabru. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.
You make your way to Sing Gompa ascending on the ridges through the deep forests with mixed vegetation. En route, you reach Dursagang and Phulung Gompa before ascending steeply to reach Shin Gompa, which is located in the picturesque village of Chandanbari. Overnight in Sing Gompa.
As you leave Shin Gompa, you will first reach the village of Chyolangpati, which is famous for its cheese production. You then continue to ascend through the forest to reach Laurebina, from where you make a steep ascend to reach a 4165m high pass that takes you first to Saraswati Kund and then to Bhairab Kund. Finally, an easy walk on a flat trail brings you to the holy lake of Gosaikunda. The turquoise freshwater lake is considered as a pilgrimage site by the followers of Hindu as well as Buddhist religion. Enjoy the peaceful environment around the pristine lake. Leaving the beautiful Gosainkunda behind, today you pass a few small lakes as you ascend to reach Lauribina Pass (4610m). You can get an amazing view of various lakes surrounding Gosainkunda while standing on top of Lauribina La (4610m). You will then descend steeply to reach Phedi, from where you walk through the forest to finally reach Ghopte. Overnight in Ghopte.
Today you will follow the trail through the verdant forest of Soli Danda. Many clear streams are crossed during this easy trek. You come across a small cave before reaching Thadepati Pass (3690m). Enjoy the view of Helambu valley from the top of the pass. Descending left route from Thadepati, you make your way to Melamchi Gaon through the quiet forest with the views if small villages in distant hillsides. You cross small streams enjoying their soothing south amid the pin-drop silence. Then, finally, a gradual climb through the forest of rhododendron and oak brings you to the beautiful Melamchi Gaon. Overnight in Melamchi Gaon.
Moving on from Melamchi Gaon, you head on to reach the Hyolmo village of Tarkeghyang, also known as Helambu. The trail goes through the deep forest of rhododendron which is dotted with small monasteries and Chortens. Upon reaching Tarkeghyang, you can visit the ancient Gekye Gompa to get a glimpse of the practices of the Hyolmo community. Overnight in Tarkeghyang.
You head on to another Hyolmo village in the Helambu valley, that is, Sermathang. As you descend, you reach the monastery in Ghangyul, from where you cross a Mani wall and climb down gradually to reach Chimighyang. Then a pleasant walk on a flat trail through the forest brings you to Sermathang. Overnight in Sermathang.
From Sermathang, the trail descends steeply to reach Melamchi Bazar. Passing many temples and monasteries, you cross small villages before reaching the confluence of Melamchi River and Indrawati River, across which the small town of Melamchi is situated. Overnight in Melamchi Bazaar.
Today you will drive back to Kathmandu from Melamchi Bazaar. Enjoy the scenery of the hillsides and the terraced farms along with various river gorges on your way to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for the overnight stay.
