This national park contains lake Gosaikunda which is sacred for the Hindu religion. Another religious spot would be the Monastery of Kyanjin Gompa.

Best time to trek in the Langtang valley

You have four seasons to decide from – Spring, Autumn, Summer, and Winter to make your trip. The climatic condition changes according to these seasons.

Each season has its own benefits and disadvantages. Usually, trekkers consider Spring and Autumn season the best time to trek in the Langtang valley. But that does not mean other seasons can’t be considered for trekking.

The months from September to mid-December fall under the Autumn season. Trekkers considered this season perfect for trekking in the Langtang valley. The climatic condition is quite stable.

It is warm during the day time and gives you the pleasure of walking beneath the blue sky.

However, during the morning and night time, the weather might be a little bit cold. But there are slight chances of fog covering the beauty of the mountains.

The autumn season is the peak season making the routes very crowded. Walking these trails you will find yourself a trekking companion heading towards the same destination.

Spring is considered the next best season after Autumn. The month of March to May falls under this season.

The days are long and warm making these routes quite easy for the trek. During day time the temperatures rise from 10 degrees to 20 degrees.

It is a new beginning not only for the year but also for you. As you can venture through the trails filled with wildflowers, unique vegetation, lush forests, etc.

June, July, and August fall under the Monsoon season. The trials are slippery and filled with bugs, leeches, and earthworms so you have to be careful on these paths.

On the brighter side, the routes are less crowded making the explore quite remarkable. Also, the rainwashed surrounding gives you a sensation of enjoyment.

However, the weather is hot in the lower region but it starts to drop as you make your climb in higher elevation. There are also high chances of fog blinding the visions of the mountain range.

During the winter season, the trails can be seen covered with snow. This season starts from the month of December and lasts till February.

Compared to day time, night times are much colder. It tends to drop below to minus degree in the night.

The valley is covered with blankets of snow. The weather conditions might be hectic due to snowfalls and cold winds.

Difficulties faced in Langtang Valley Trek

This is a moderate trek making it neither too easy nor too hard. You will be walking for many days resting in tea houses and climbing into higher altitudes. However, some difficulties faced in Langtang valley trek are altitude sickness, routes difficulties, etc.

Route difficulty

Langtang valley trek 11 days is a short trek that can be finished in 10 to 11 days. Even beginners can finish this trek with ease. However, some parts of this trek can be challenging for you. It is a steep up and downhill climb. You will also be walking through narrow paths and ridges. You will be walking about 6-7 hours covering 15-16 km in a day.

For a noob trekker, this walking distance can be a lot. So you should prepare your body in advance by going on short walks and exercises.

Weather

The weather has always been a vital part of the trek. You can’t be sure as it keeps changing unexpectedly. Weather determines how memorable your trek will be.

One of the reasons why people prefer autumn and spring is due to the favorable weather and clear skies. The mountains are clearly visible during those times.

You can trek during winter and monsoon season too but the heavy rain and snow are unpredictable. You should read the weather forecast beforehand.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness has always been a major problem for trekkers. While climbing higher altitudes the oxygen decreases causing Altitude sickness. When the oxygen is low you are short in-breath resulting symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, headache, fever, etc.

To reduce this problem acclimatization day is held where you rest in one of the stops. You let your body adapt so that it doesn’t cause problems for you while traveling higher in the elevation.

The trek might be moderate but you need to train your body before going on treks. Training doesn’t require anything technical. You should be both Physically and Mentally fit.

Below is the detailed itinerary of the 11 days Langtang valley trek.

Day 1: Arrival to Kathmandu

When you arrive at the international airport our representative will be there to pick you up. After the warm greeting, you will be dropped off at your hotel. Your flight must have been quite exhausting so you will rest for the day.

Day 2: Sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley

You will wake up early and get ready to explore the capital city today. Kathmandu is known as the city of temples.

You will visit some famous sites presented in the city i.e. Pashupatinath, Boudha Stupa, Swayambhu, etc. Some of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well.

The Newari community will amaze you with their culture and heritage. You will also visit the Patan and Basantapur Durbar Squares which is mostly home for Newari people.

After an incredible tour, you will return to your hotel. You should rest for the day but if you don’t feel dull then you can roam around your hotel area.

Day 3: Kathmandu to SyabruBesi

Today you will start your journey towards the Langtang Valley. You will leave early this morning as it is a 7 – 8 hours drive from Kathmandu to SyabruBesi.

The distance between Kathmandu and Syabru Besi is about 80 km. Along the way, you will drive through the banks of the Trishuli river. The Scenic view of hills, mountains, rivers, etc will keep you busy throughout the way.

Some snow-capped mountains seen on these routes are Ganesh Himal, Mt. Annapurna II, etc.

Then we pass through many settlements that can be viewed on the way i.e. Trishuli Bazar, Betrawati, and Dunche. The roads are quite rough making the paths exciting.

From Dunche as you drive down the paths you reach Syabru Besi. Syabru Besi is a beautiful town at an altitude of 1450 m.

Tonight you will stay here.

Day 4: SyabruBesi to Lama Hotel

Today you will take a walk from SyabruBesi to Lama Hotel which takes about 5 – 6 hours. The distance between Syabru Besi and Lama Hotel is 11.3 km.

After your night there, you will begin your trek by crossing over the Bhote Koshi River through a suspension bridge. As you walk a bit further you will visit the Guru Rinpoche Gomba.

From the Gomba you will walk a stone-paved path and again cross a suspension bridge and climb up to trails that go through the lush green forest filled with colorful rhododendron and trees of oak, pines, maple, etc.

You can also view different animals inside the forests such as Wild boars, Red pandas, Langur monkeys, etc. Mostly the habitation of Langur monkeys is spread throughout these trails.

Then as you ascend furthermore from there you reach Lama Hotel. This Hotel is situated at an altitude of 2470 m.

From the hotel, you get to view the snowy peaks of the mountains such as Naya Kang and Langtang II.

You will stay the night here.

Day 5: Lama Hotel to Langtang village

On your fifth day, you will head towards the Langtang village which is about 4-5 hours walk. The distance between the Lama Hotel and Langtang village is 14.8 km.

First, you will start by making a gentle climb than the climb starts to become steep as you walk the paths in the forest filled with oaks, maple, rhododendron, etc. In between the woods, you get a short glimpse of Mt. Langtang Lirung.

You then walk through many bridges made of logs before you arrive at Ghora Tabela. Ghora Tabela is a lush meadow situated at an altitude of 2992 m.

This day you walk through many barren lands, helipads, lush green forests. You will then cross many streams, water mills, prayer mills, etc before you arrive at the beautiful Langtang valley.

Langtang valley is situated at an altitude of 3430 m which is a large settlement. The people mostly living there are Tamang. The village is surrounded by walls of stones to protect their crops from the harsh wind.

You explore the village as you will be staying the night here.

Day 6: Trek from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa

Langtang valley trek 11 daysOn your sixth day, you will hike till Kyanjin Gompa which is about a 2 – 3 hours walk. You will be covering a distance of 6.8 km from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa.

The trails ascend leading towards a huge stupa from here you walk past Mani walls to reach mundu. Mundu is situated at an altitude of 3543 m.

You will then walk through a narrow path above the Langtang River. As you cross small streams along the way you reach Kyanjin Gompa.

Kyanjin Gompa is situated at an altitude of 3817 m. From here you get to view the mesmerizing mountains such as Mt. Ganchhenpo, Mt. Langtang Lirung, etc.

If you like cheese then you can visit the famous cheese factory or you can explore the lifestyle of people living there.

Day 7: Explore Kyanjin Gompa and a short hike up to Tsergo Ri

Today you will explore the valley and hike to the highest point of this trek Tsergo Ri.

The hike takes about 9-10 hours to go and come back from Kyajin Gompa. The distance between Kyanjin Gomba and Tsergo Ri is 17.7 km.

Tsergo Ri is at an elevation of 5150 m. The stunning view of the Langtang valley and peaks of various mountains such as Langtang Lirung, etc is breathtaking from up there.

The striking views of the Langtang glaciers with unique glacial mass formation are also within walking distance from Kyanjin Gompa.

You can also walk up to Langshisha Kharka where yak pasture during the day time.

After a wonderful tour around the valley, you will return back to Kyanjin Gompa. The lively cultural display of the Tamang community will enchant you.

You will rest the night here.

Day 8: Trek Back to Lama Hotel

After a memorable day in Kyanjin Gompa now you will retrace your steps back to Lama Hotel. The distance between Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel is about 21.6 km.

The walk is about 6-7 hours from Kyanjin Gompa. You will descend observing the snowy peaks and walking through lush forests alongside Langtang River.

Walking past Langtang village and Ghoda Tabela you arrive at Lama Hotel. You will have descended more than 1430 m this day. Obviously, the climb down will be much faster than ascending.

You will be staying your night in the Hotel.

Day 9: Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi

Today is your last day in the Langtang region. You will be walking for about 4-5 hours covering the distance of 11.3 km.

You will take the same routes back going through forests of rhododendron, oaks, pines, etc. The stunning view of the Mountains, landscape, villages will seem more attractive as it will be your last night here.

You will climb downhill crossing suspension bridges and reach Syabru Besi.

After a few hours’ walks, you will rest here for the night.

Day 10: Back to Kathmandu

From Syabru Besi you will head back to Kathmandu. Passing through small villages, viewing the mountains for the last time before you reach the capital.

After you have arrived in Kathmandu you will be dropped off at your hotel. You can freshen up and roam the streets of Thamel. Nightlife in these streets is not to be missed.

You will spend your last night on this trip here.

Day 11: Drop off at the Airport

After having your breakfast, you will be dropped off at the International airport. Please check to see if you have forgotten any of your belongings. You will leave taking beautiful memories of this trek.
